Meet your guide at the cruise port terminal, and together take a private car through St. Petersburg city center. On arrival to Peter and Paul Fortress, we’ll start to map our tour, tracing a path through the burial vaults of the Romanov Family. We’ll continue the discovery of the Romanovs history in St. Isaac’s Cathedral . Visit the Hermitage with an art historian guide after. The Hermitage is the home to a world-renowned collection of paintings by the Renaissanceartists. We will weave through the galleries with our guide, pausing to study and discuss the famous works by Rembrandt and Leonardo Da Vinci, as well as lesser-known treasures. The Benois Madonna will provide the climax to our visit, and we will take time to appreciate the artist’s mastery, and learn about the painting’s pathway to its current home.
On the second day of the tour we will head to Peterhof Parks, wander around the most beautiful fountains in the world and take pictures of the Samson fountain along with the Grand Cascade.Visit the world-famous Amber Room in the Catherine Palace and avoid the crowds on a separate entrance admission.
On the third day we will focus on the main trends and styles of Russian art from the Icons to the 20th c. avant-guard and Soviet Realism. We will dwell on the main trends and styles of visual art in Russia: focus on the most important images and symbols of the icons, explain the origin of the main features of the 18-19th c. art, such as academic art, the “Wanderers”, realism and landscape school, religious and historic genres.
At the end of our Three-days’ Basic Tour of St. Petersburg , we’ll take a tour of the Church of Our Savior on the Spilled Blood and stroll along NevskyProspekt to visit the Kazan Cathedral.
