Two-Days’ Basic Tour of St. Petersburg, the Catherine Palace and Peterhof is made for land travelers who would like to take the city highlights tour for an overview of all the must-sees in the city. With our two-days’ tour, you have some time to visit two of the most breathtaking palaces St. Petersburg has to offer on an excursion outside of the busy city. Visit the Peterhof Palace park and fountain gardens, and experience the tranquil Catherine Palace in Tsarskoye Selo which houses the magnificent Amber Room. Let our knowledgeable guides show you around the city and make the most of your time here. On this tour you will visit not only the Peterhof Fountain Parks, the Catherine Palace, but also the Hermitage (Main Complex), the Church of Our Savior on the Spilled Blood, Peter and Paul Fortress, St. Isaac’s Cathedral.
We'll begin with a first class minivan ride from your hotel to Peterhof. Upon arrival to Peterhof we will spend about 2 hours exploring the parks and fountains, walking the maze of fountains and golden statues. Along the way our guide will focus on architectural features of the Peterhof Palace exteriors and the history of the royal Romanovs family.
Leaving Peterhof we’ll head to Tsarskoye Selo and visit the Catherine Palace. There you will be able to avoid the queue to get the tickets. We’ll have private admission from a separate entrance. Our guide will show you around the golden ball rooms and let inside the world-famous Amber Room.
Next day, we'll take a skip-the-line tour of the Hermitage Museum and stroll through the multiple galleries of the Renaissance art, take pictures and learn more of Leonardo Da Vinci’s Madonna and Raphael’s masterpieces.
Following the lead of our guide, we will visit the three main cathedrals as well: the Church of Our Savior on the Spilled Blood, St. Isaac’s Cathedral and Peter and Paul Cathedral. A close reading of the frescoes inside, the models, and burial vaults fully illustrates the history of the Russian Empire which will be the fitting conclusion to our two-days’ comprehensive tour of St. Petersburg.

Our tours of St. Petersburg were everything that we had hoped. We saw all the top attractions with excellent commentary by Timofey. His knowledge of history, art, architecture, and politics are awesome. He emailed a tentative itinerary for the three days, and was amenable to changes if we had wanted. His driver dropped us off so that we didn't have to wait for parking, and didn't have far to walk. Timofey bought tickets and ushered us quickly into museums, palaces, cathedrals. He made great recommendations of restaurants for lunch and dinner. Lunch places were where the locals ate, and also were quick so that we didn't waste valuable touring time. He suggested the Russian folk dance show, which we really enjoyed. He was very prompt in his responses to my emails, and very clear as to what we needed to do to gain admittance into Russia. Also his prices were a little less than the ship's shore excursions, and the 6 of us had Timofey and his knowledge all to ourselves!

We couldn't find a tour that would give us the time at both Peterhof and Catherine's Palace. Tailored Tours was able to do this. We are appreciative of their coordination efforts in getting the tickets for Catherine's Palace and for the fact that we saw the better part of the palace with more of the restored rooms. For our travel budget our day with Sergey was a big investment. But, it was a very worthwhile investment. Sergey was charming and knowledgeable. He expertly guided us around the palaces and was very informative. He answered all of our questions. My husband particularly enjoyed talking to him on the ride from Peterhof to the Palace. The restaurant chosen for lunch was delicious. We also really enjoyed the additions to our tour - our subway rides through the magnificent St. Petersburg subway stations - New York City is sad in comparison. As well, the stop at the Peter and Paul Cathedral. Sergey is a terrific guide (the driver whose name I have forgotten was also very nice) and we have fabulous memories of our day.
